Lowell Makes is proud to announce the addition of Eeldrytch Leather Workshoppe to our family.  Eeldrytch is known across the land as one of the top producers of leather goods popular at Renaissance Faires.  If you have ever been to King Richard’s Faire—you have seen Eeldrytch leather.

For over 30 years, Eeldrytch Leather Workshoppe has been producing a variety of top-quality leather goods right here in Massachusetts.  They are not only coming to Lowell, but they will be showing you how to make your own leather creations.  Creations that you will be proud of, and will stand the test of time.

Leather isn’t just fashionable, leather was essential to the old mills that were once the backbone of Lowell.  Leather belts typically helped convey power from wheels driven by the Merrimack River to the machines that made Lowell the textile capital of the world.

And now you can be part of the tradition!

Thank-you for bringing all these amazing leather working classes to Lowell:

June 2, 2014 Leather Barrette Workshop 7pm

Weekly Open Houses

Starting this Wednesday January 22nd, we will be holding regular Open Houses every Wednesday from 6PM to 9PM in our space. The Open Houses will be open to both members and the general public to experience and discuss what Lowell Makes is all about. Most weeks we should have demonstrations on ongoing and completed projects. Other weeks we might have scheduled speakers and discussions on subjects involving technology, design, DIY culture and other related topics.

Encourage your friends and and family to come join us and take part in the next big thing in Lowell!

Successful Open House

While our first of the two planned Open Houses this past week was a bust due to a power outage, our second Open House was a total success! We had several demonstrations on hand along with several members and many non-members in attendance. There were plenty of discussions around ongoing projects and classes as well as projects and classes people would like to see going forward.

Coming out of this last Open House we had added another member with the promise of another and a couple more signups for our coming this Saturday

Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday and we hope to see you again at our weekly Open Houses going forward.

Arduino Workshop

arduinoworkshop

This workshop is for anyone who has never played around with Arduino before and those who have played around a little bit but aren’t entirely sure about how the basics work. It’s easier than you think!

We will put together basic single component electrical circuits, learn about analog and digital, input and output, basic programming concepts, practice very basic Serial communication, and briefly cover basic virtual prototyping.

In case you haven’t noticed the key word here is “basic.”

Students will create three simple circuits highlighting analog and digital forms of input and output. Get started with the Arduino programming environment; briefly discuss programming and virtual prototyping.

Concepts that will be covered include:

  • Using a breadboard
  • Ohm’s Law
  • Digital and Analog
  • Input and Output
  • Arduino programming environment basics
  • Serial Monitor usage with text, variables and pin states

The $99 workshop fee includes a Sparkfun Inventor’s Kit students get to take home afterward; the kit normally sells online for $99.95.  Members of Lowell Makes may participate in the workshop for $75.

To ensure adequate instructor-student engagement, this workshop is limited to 12 students.  Please register using the form below.
