Exciting Changes Are Coming to FAMM and the Computer Lab!

FAMM

We’re upgrading two of our shops this month—FAMM (Fiber Arts & Mixed Media) and the Computer Lab! What does that mean for our members? New classes, new equipment, more usable space, and a little change of scenery!

FAMM Is Expanding!

FAMM is getting a new home, with its two areas moving into spaces designed to give members more room to create.

The Fiber Arts area of FAMM has moved to the Atrium, right next to our Jewelry and Glass (JAG) Shop. FAMM volunteers are busy setting up looms, a Melco embroidery machine, and sewing machines paired with height-adjustable tables. (Yes, we’ll be helping you get to know all that new equipment!)

Even better, the FAMM team has announced a lineup of classes to carry us through the holidays. We’re kicking things off with a series of 101 classes to help members create an extra-special, handmade holiday season. Keep an eye on upcoming calendar updates for beginner classes in sewing, sublimation, crocheting, beading, knitting, and cross-stitch, plus a special class on making an ornament with the Melco embroidery machine.

The Mixed Media area will be just steps away, in the room to the right of JAG. The FAMM team is working to create a comfortable, well-organized space where you can experiment with clay, paper, paint, and more! They’re also exploring space for miniatures and painting projects.

And there’s more happening behind the scenes, so stay tuned! Curious about what’s in store? Stop by a FAMM meetup on October 14  to learn more.

The Computer Lab Gets More Room to Grow!

The Computer Lab is moving into the former FAMM space, opening up new possibilities for technology, learning, and creativity. Plans include upgrades to our current workstations, along with a new lineup of classes and software instruction coming in the months ahead.

But we know the makerspace isn’t all work and no play! Just outside of Sav’s office, the computer lab also creating a new Arcade and Gaming area. This space will be home to our arcade and console systems, as well as an additional remote-work spot equipped for easy video calls. Whether you’re ready to play, connect, or get a little work done, there will be a place for you.

A Community Effort, Made for Our Members

These changes are the result of lots of collaboration, creativity, and member feedback. Thank you to everyone who shared ideas and helped make this next chapter possible!

We’re excited to complete the renovations and shop migration and look forward to welcoming you into these refreshed spaces, introduce you to new equipment and classes, and see what you’ll create next.

Come craft, learn, play, and create with us—we can’t wait to see what you make!
