The 8th annual Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race brought 15 wildly creative, human-powered machines to the streets of downtown Lowell, navigating everything from Bone-Shaker Alley to the Maddening Mud Pit and a paddle through the Merrimack River.
The Lowell Sun spotlighted two standout entries from Lowell Makes members. Mark Goldwater pedaled solo on Three Corgis of the Apocalypse, a moving tribute to his late dog, Lucky. For Goldwater, making it to the starting line was already a victory. Meanwhile, Brendan Falvey’s team debuted Stampede, a five-tricycle sculpture with flotation barrels. Despite leading the pack early, parts came apart mid-river, forcing the team into the classic KSR chaos of swimming and pushing their creation to shore.
The article captures the unpredictability and creativity that make the race a Lowell favorite—highlighting makers like Goldwater and Falvey who bring imagination and engineering together in spectacular style.
