Monthly Member Meeting

Recent Member Events
Intro to Craftivism with Badass Cross Stitch: On August 7, Shannon Downey — aka Badass Cross Stitch — a leader in the modern craftivism movement taught a group of makers about the history of craftivism and the fundamentals of embroidery. We hope to have a part II in the future! 

Lego Build Night: Members gathered on August 19 to assemble their Lego project and stretch their imaginations!
Lowell Makes is creating an entry for LKSR 2022!Members Rudy Dominguez and Derrell Lipman are leading the effort to create a sculpture for the Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race 2022. In this race, people-powered sculptures roll down a 5-mile road course, navigate a giant mud pit, and power down a stretch of the Merrimack River!

Fiber and Mixed Media Meetup (Public – Please RSVP)

Join us for a monthly meetup of creative folks as we play with our current fiber and mixed media projects. While we may have monthly demos of different techniques and tools, please bring your own /projects/supplies to work with. This meeting is open to the public, but please RSVP (by reserving a ticket) so we can manage space.

Kung Fu Movie Night (Members and guests of members only)
Friday, September 9 | 7pm – 10pm | free
Come join your fellow members for a fun family-friendly movie night! Feel free to bring your partner, bestie, kids, etc., and sit back and enjoy a movie on the big screen. This month’s movie will be Adventure-themed. Free to all members and their guests. We’ll be selling movie-style treats (popcorn, candy, soda) for you to enjoy.

Lock Sports Meetup (Members and guests of members only)
Sunday, September 18 | 1 – 4pm | free 
Join the Locksports club for a monthly meetup on the third Sunday of the month. Bring any picks & locks you have. If you’re new to lock picking, there will bring extra tools and a bunch of practice locks…There should be projects for everyone at every level. This is a free meetup and will take place in either the classroom or lounge as space permits. No registration is required, but you can join the Locksport Basecamp to find out more information.

If you have trouble starting a project, lose motivation or get lost this is a great space to keep yourself on track and ask questions to learn more!
WOODSHOPWoodshop Machinery Fundamentals (Members only)
Monday, September 12 AND 26 | 6pm – 9:30pm | $150 + $20 materials fee
A beginner level two-part workshop that will provide instruction and hands on experience in safely operating Lowell Makes’ woodshop power machines.
 Wooden Picture Frame Workshop (Members Only, Level 2 Checkout Required)
Tuesday, September 13 | 6:30 – 8:30pm | $65 + $10 materials fee
This workshop will teach you how to make two of the most frequently used frames, the floating frame and the wall frame. You will make one of these frames. Participants will learn how to take raw wood, mill it to the frame’s dimension, use a framing miter sled to cut perfect miters on the table saw and join the frame segments together with the Logan v-nail joiner.
 Make Your Own Charcuterie Board (Members only, Level 2 Checkout Required)
Tuesday, September 20 | 6:30 – 9pm | $60
Learn to make your own charcuterie board from native cherry harvested in Maine. Overall dimensions will vary based on your preference, with lengths range from 24 inches to 36 inches. Width will be approximately 6 inches. A template for the handle will be given to each participant. Once you have gone through this process, you will easily be able to make more charcuterie boards. They make great gifts!
 Beginner Bowl Turning Workshop (Members only, Level 1 Lathe Checkout Required)
Saturday, September 24 | 9 – 11:30am | $85 + $10 materials fee
For the emerging lathe turner, this workshop builds on the beginner spindle-turning workshop and will qualify you for a Level 2 checkout (bowl turning). Create a bowl roughed to shape demonstrating familiarity with all machine parts and turning competency by finding center, turning to round, shape outside, shape bottom to accept chuck and rough out the inside, sweep to 1” wall.  
CERAMICS SHOPAdventures with Clay – new six-week course in the Ceramic Studio
Sundays 11-1pm from September 18 – October 23 | $300/Non-members; Members receive a 20% discount
This course will examine various methods to design, form, throw, finish and color clay forms.  Each week will cover a different aspect of working with clay.  This course is open to all different levels of skills, from beginner to experienced.  The course is intended to explore different ceramic techniques and to inspire creativity.  Additionally, it will serve as a check out for members who wish to use the Ceramic Shop more extensively. 
 COMING SOON! Using the Potter’s Wheel – six week course in the Ceramic Studio
This course is designed for beginners and experienced potters looking to hone skills on the wheel.  Learn and practice tips and tricks to reliably center clay on the wheel.  Students will throw cylinders, bowls, small plates and off the hump, they will trim, make handles and spouts. The elements of a well-designed utilitarian form will be explored. Starting in October – dates tbd.
